The Zone, Creek Zone, Creekers, Zoners and more..........

Well, I guess it is time to tell the story of the Zone. We have lived down here for almost 30 years. Me and my family, daughter Jennifer & son Bradley moved down here in 1979 and inherited the Dairy Queen in Seven Points after going through a much need divorce. I moved my mom, Nana, down here in 1980 to live with me. She is really a blessing, she will be 83 on her next birthday in September. My sister and her family live here too. Ws all worked at the Dairy Queen at one time or another. After being raised in Arlington, Texas for most of our lives, moving to this area was a big deal to us. We were used to having everything we needed within a few blocks of us. Down here you had to drive to the metroplex to do any kind of shopping for school clothes and sometimes groceries. We felt like we had entered the Twilight Zone. That is where we came up the the Creek Zone. Cedar Creek Lake is a beautiful, laid back area. Believe me when I tell you that there are real Zoners. Anyone that is born and raised down here are zoners or creekers. This area has come a long way in the past years. We are actually like getting citified. I would not move back up to the metroplex for anything now. I must say that I am a zoner or creeker transplant. I absoutley love it down here. When the kids were smaller we nicknamed them like the Waltons, Jennifer became Jenn Ellen, Bradley became Brad Boy, and Josh became Josh Bob all of this was B.C.(before Courtney). That used to piss her off when we would say something happened and it was B.C. Courtney is our real Zoner, she was born in Mabank Texas at the family clinic. We also have a friend Pam Green that is a real zoner, she was born at the donut palace in malakoff.
We have made so many good friends since arriving in the zone. These are friends that we will keep forever. Back in 2001, we deceided to invent our own holiday for the zone. We have it on Memorial Day weekend every year and it is called ZoneFest. All friends and family are invited to come and we usually have quite a crowd. This year was our 7 annual Zonefest and we had aroun 50 zoners and creekers to show up. Everyone had a great time. We do all the cooking here at my house and the guests bring their lawn chairs, and drinks. I will be sharing some of the interesting stories from over the years as my blogging come together.
I am looking forward to more zone stories, later..............................

Wednesday already!

Well today is already Wednesday. I go in for surgery in the morning, nothing too bad just a hernia and I hope I get to come home tomorrow afternoon if everything goes okay. I hate that Brad will miss Marks dads funeral tomorrow but I hear the Joe and Doug are going. That is so nice. Mr. Fuerubacher was a neat man, he could keep you in stitches all the time. Never knew what would come out of his mouth. He will missed around here for sure. Mark and Glenda have to be the best neighbors that we have ever had. Actually, we have quite a few good neighbors now. It us such a pity that it took us almost 28 years to get them. lol Anyway the day at work was as usual SSDD. We are getting close to being at the new plant, I hope it does really well.
I saw where Hana went to the Dr. today, she is so good, and growing like a weed. I love her new outfit. Hope Courtney gets to feeling better too. Well Jonathan came over again today to stay with Nana. Brad has him out in the boat right now fishing, hope he catches something. He is such a good helper when he is around here. Well I am going to go for now, and start my nightly ritual, that happens when you get old, you have certain things that you do every night, or at least I do. I have to be in Athens before 7AM in the morning, yuck. Well when this is over maybe that will put me back on the right track. TTYL.................................

Ugh! Back to work

Well I went back to work today. It sure seemed like a Monday with the rain and all. Everyone seemed to have a nice holiday. I guess our Hana is eating veggies now! I bet she will like them all because her mommy is doing them herself. I knew Courtney would be a great mother. She had too many dolls when she was young, and treated them all like children. lol
Well the last of the company left today, Bubba, Patty and Tyler. Tyler got to fish 3 different times and caught fish all 3 times. He really enjoyed it. I think Brad had as much fun as he did just helping him. Jonathan came over to stay with Nana today, he is already out of school for the summer. He went fishing too, and caught fish also. Nana said one time he got so wet from the rain and had to take his shirt off and dry it in the dryer. lol I hope I can get the hang of this blogging stuff. later................

ZoneFest Success!

Well we had another succesfull ZoneFest. We had about 40 -45 people here at one time or the other. Hana Grace Massey and Lauren Elizabeth Green made their first ZoneFest appearance. They both are so cute. Victoria , Joe's sister came this year for the first time. She is no longer a ZoneFest virgin and such a pleasure to be around. Everyone seemed to have a good time. Alot of the neighbors came this year. Sure did miss Josh Bob and Angela this year, they have moved out to Los Angeles for work and could not make it. I hope to get better at this blogging thing. It has been such a long day so I am going to leave for now. Later..........

ZoneFest Eve 2008

The big party is tomorrow starting at 6:00. We're getting the house all ready, but some dumbass just set off a firework in the newly enclosed garage. It had to be a city slicker from the Red River area. Now there's a nice aroma saturating the air. Hopefully it will clear out by tomorrow.

Tomorrow will be a busy day, starting off with a trip to Wally World. We'll be running our first Encounter Counter. Just how many people will we run into that we know! Then it's to the liquor store. We'll have to make sure we take our fish to trade. And then we're tying Nana in the kitchen to make up the 50 lbs of potato salad and 25 gallons of baked beans. Plus, we've got the olives for bobbin'.

We got our buckets of margaritas in the freezer ready to go. The outside fridge is full of drinks and ice. We'll have to have everything ready by 3:00 for any early arrivals. Plus, we're gonna get the gaming tables set up.

Well, we've off to bed to get an early start tomorrow. We sure look forward to seeing everybody! Although, we're gonna be missing Josh & Angela!!
